IX-6315 "Dawn" is a Xenon electric deep space engine. It features a compact design with a unique bright blue plume. This engine is usually suited for small payloads traveling vast distances. It is unlocked from Xenon Propulsion in Tier 2 of the Tech Tree. The Dawn is the only engine in the game which consumes Xenon and requires Electric Charge rather than generating it.

Usage

The Dawn generates thrust by exciting Xenon with electricity. This creates minimal amounts of thrust and requires a considerable amount of power but is extraordinarily fuel efficient. Significant power from solar panels may suffice closer to a star, but usage in the further reaches of space may require alternate sources of power to maintain operation. Its incredible efficiency makes it a strong contender for small, long-distance probes.

In atmosphere the Dawn is essentially useless, providing no tangible thrust.

Synopsis

The IX-6315 "Dawn" is a small Ion thruster. It was designed by D. Kerman, a brilliant theremin player, after they made a startling discovery experimenting with magnetic fields. This engine produces very little thrust, but it is amazingly efficient and has a gorgeous blue glow. What's not to like?
