Jool is the sixth planet and the largest planet in the kerbolar system, and it's only Gas Giant. It is green in appearance, with swirling bands of clouds moving at deadly speeds.

Synopsis

"By far the flashiest planet in the Kerbollar system, Jool is a gas giant with massive gravitational pull and five moons. There is no land to land on and the atmospheric pressure destroys anything kerbals throw into its center; however, the upper layers of clouds are ripe for study and watercolor paintings."

Surface

why does it even have one? like seriously?

Atmosphere

the atmosphere of jool is composed of hydrogen and helium with a significant amount of chlorine. the average molar mass of its atmosphere is 2.2 g mol. at the "datum" level temperatures on jool are about 200°C which possibly indicates that jool might be radiating more heat than it receives from kerbol. at around 90 000 meters, where the atmospheric pressure is equal to that of kerbin's, temperatures average at about 120°C . jool is well known for its intense green color. these vibrant greenish clouds are produced by chlorine gas being renewed by uv photolysis of atmospheric hydrogen chloride. it's possible that jool actually has clouds enriched in hydrochloric acid. without any land to slow down winds jool is home to intense winds of over 600 km h and is home to multiple raging storm system that can reach up to 1 500 km h. three of these storms are larger than kerbin itself.

most spacecraft will burn up and explode as they descend further into jool jool\'s atmosphere. it is likely that due to the immense pressure much of jool jool\'s internal structure is made of metallic hydrogen. this huge layer of metallic hydrogen produces jool jool\'s powerful magnetosphere.

Trivia

  • Jool has a surface for some godforsaken reason.
  • Did we mention its stupid for Jool to have a surface?
  • Before the implementation of entry heating in 0.2.0, it was quite easy to reach and land on Jool's surface. There are no confirmed cases of people making it back to orbit, though
