LV-SW "SWERV" is a hydrogen deep space engine. It is unlocked from Heavy Nuclear Propulsion in Tier 3 of the Tech Tree. It features a penta-nozzle design. It has a smaller sibling part, the LV-N "Nerv".
At sea level the engine is effectively useless, due to its low thrust and specific impulse. In vacuum, however, the engine is very efficient, featuring the second highest Specific Impulse of any engine second only to the IX-6315 "Dawn". Due to its incredible vacuum performance, the SWERV is best used for interplanetary transfer stages. Unlike the NERV the SWERV has gimbal capability which makes it much more maneuverable. Often paired with a "Spherotron", it makes for a capable and low-effort means of transferring sizable payloads between planets. It'sLG
size pairs with other deep space parts such as the "Cockatoo" or "Wanderer" pods for streamlined vessel designs if using matching hydrogen fuel tanks. The length of the engine does not generally make it suitable for being used on landers, nor for side mounted motors.
"The "Super Warm Engine for Rocket Vehicles" is a gas core nuclear engine designed for high thrust operations. It consists of five tubes attached to a structure to allow them to gimbal."
