The following are guidelines for various aspects of writing article content about celestial bodies (CBs), established by consensus among KSP 2 Wiki editors. Please discuss them on the talk page if you have ideas or questions. Editors should also be familiar with the main Manual of Style.
Naming conventions[edit source]
CB articles are to be titled explicitly per their appearance in-game, e.g. Kerbin, Mun, et cetera.
Layout[edit source]
The following labels describe the sections used in articles related to CBs, in the order they should be included. Underlined items are required for article. The section titles should typically reflect these. Do not try to conform to them if they are not helping to improve the article.
- Infobox: The infobox should be present at the top of the article. Contents here should adhere to the template documentation.
- Lead section: The name of the CB should be in bold, its classification, and star system go first. Then a brief summary of the physical appearance and properties of the body (e.g. color, atmosphere, terrain), a count and list of any moons (if applicable), and any notable details.
- Synopsis: The in-game description of the body in italics, explicitly as present in the latest version and inclusive of typos, see below for further information.
- Surface: A description of the overall surface topography of the body. Biomes/Science regions can be briefly touched on, but expanded on in detail in a later section.
- This section is substituted by Atmosphere for stars and gaseous planets. Mentions of a "technical" surface belong in Trivia.
- Atmosphere: A description of the atmospheric appearance and composition of the body. This is required for bodies with atmospheres.
- Oceans: A description of the oceanic appearance and composition of the body. This is required for bodies with oceans/surface liquid.
- Other Planetary Info: Other sections regarding details about a body which can be sufficiently substantiated may be included here.
- Science Regions: A breakdown of the Science regions (biomes) present for the body. Subsections should include tabulated Science data on orbital (including atmosphere), surface, and Discoverable Science with brief leading information.
- Gallery: Additional images with captions of the body from in-game screenshots may be included here.
- Trivia: If any noteworthy trivia exists for a body, such as a reference in its synopsis or relation to a real-life analog, it may be included here.
- Changes: This list details any changes made to a body per game version, beginning with its introduction, in reverse chronological order top to bottom (most recent at the top).
- K for Kerb: Community references, jokes, and general un-official tomfoolery (Dres is not real.) should be left to this section. See the Dwarf Fortress Wiki for more.
- Celestial Body Navbox: The bottom of the page should display the {{Navbox Celestial Bodies}} template by default.
- Categories: Relevant [[Categories]] should be listed at the bottom of the article. All bodies should be categorized with Celestial Bodies, their type (e.g., Moons), and their star systems (e.g. Kerbol System). Other categories can be added as necessary.
